As a person who’s completely new to the Health IT world, my first time attending NextGen UGM One 2019 was one for the books! It was a great way to familiarize myself with NextGen as a leading EHR provider, but also a great way to see just how crucial functioning EHR systems are to healthcare facilities, big or small, and what other software and products contribute to making that happen.
There were so many informational and engaging options for attendees and exhibitors at the 2019 show. NextGen offered multiple learning sessions, informational forums, and even an onsite Learning Lab where attendees and exhibitors could receive assistance for any technical issues or questions. During this year’s main General Session, I was really excited to see the keynote speakers were The 3 Doctors from the novel The Pact, a nonfiction novel I was assigned to read over 10 years ago in high school that I thoroughly enjoyed. Talk about a deja vu moment.
eMedApps at UGM 2019
I may have been a newbie, but as a NextGen Partner, our company attends and sponsors the event every year. It was great to see my team in action giving Live Demos of our CareFinity Live Archive and our Patient Enrollment Manager. Shawnna and Vik were great with their explanations, especially for someone like me who’s somewhat new to the healthcare lingo.

We also hosted our annual Client Appreciation party and that was a fantastic way to be introduced to the full team and clients alike. Not just because we were able to let our hair down and have a moment to relax and celebrate, but because I had a chance to walk around and engage with coworkers and various clients from all over the country. I left that night feeling more involved in the team than ever, and feeling like a positive connection had been made with our valued customers.
The Fun Stuff
NextGen proved to me that they understand the value of hard work and that it deserves a reward every once and awhile. Perhaps the coolest portion of this year’s show were the Puppy Cuddling area and the all access visit to Universal Studios Islands of Adventure. The Puppy Cuddling area was set up so exhibitors and attendees could take a break and have a moment to relax and what’s a better way to relax then with adorable puppies? They even gave people the option to adopt one! I sure wish I could have brought one back to Chicago with me.

The trip to Universal was another special moment for me because I have been a huge fan of Harry Potter for as long as I can remember and being able to experience the World of Harry Potter without the huge crowd was a moment I’ll remember forever!

To make a long story short, UGM 2019 has me looking forward to NextGen UGM 2020. I think I know what to expect, but I also have a feeling I’ll be just as surprised and impressed as I was this year!
